I8kfanGUI version 3.1 is out (16. February 2007).

The following changes were made to version 3.0:

1. application and fanio driver ported to Windows x64 (AMD64 / EM64T)
2. display the temperature of each core on multi core systems with DTS capability
3. new CPU load detection algorithm for compatibility with future Windows versions
4. possible access violation fixed when opening the About box
5. possible access violation during hd access fixed
6. updated the CPU detection: added several new feature flags

General info

I8kfanGUI is a graphical Windows application to show the internal temperatures and to control the fan operation on the Dell Inspiron/Latitude/Precision notebook series. It's running under Windows 2000 and above operating system versions (Windows 2000/XP/Server2003/Vista). For the original DOS command line utility look here.

This program is licensed under the terms and conditions of the GNU general public license.

If you've still problems with it, then please ask me only if you have problems using it on an Inspiron 8000/8100/8200 (my testing environment). If you have different hardware try asking on the I8kfanGUI forum or in the appropriate Dell Inspiron/Latitude Forum.

Fan control for other operating systems

1. A FreeBSD/NetBSD/OpenBSD version of the original DOS i8kfan command line tool ported to *BSD by Damir Lampa (unfortunately the link is dead)
2. Since Linux kernel 2.4.15 there's also a kernel module written by Massimo Dal Zotto to get access to the important SMM functions under Linux. The tools to access that driver are here:
